It’s time to crack open a can as the San Diego Seals partner with Belching Beaver Brewery to introduce their very own micro-brew: Salty’s Escape

Salty’s Escape set to make its debut at Friday night’s Seals-Swarm matchup at Pechanga Arena

The San Diego Seals have partnered with local brewer Belching Beaver to create their very own micro-brew, Salty’s Escape. The very first cans are set to be cracked open during Friday night’s Seals game against the Georgia Swarm at Pechanga Arena.

“We’d been looking for an opportunity to celebrate our incredible fans and pour their passion for the Seals into their very own locally-crafted brew,” said Seals President and CEO Paul Speaker. It was important for us to partner with a local craft brewery that clearly understood what the San Diego Seals and our fans valued and stood for and after much research and taste testing, Belching Beaver really stood out to us, and Salty’s Escape was the clear winner.”

Salty’s Escape is a crisp Mexican-Style cerveza that is ideal for hitting the turf or cheering from the grandstand. It features corn and puffed Jasmine rice for a light body and mild biscuit flavor and it tips the scales at 4.8% ABV.

“Our fans come to Pechanga Arena and they like to have fun,” added Speaker. They like rock and roll, dive bars and a good beer with friends. Our games are a high-energy, action-packed party atmosphere that can’t be beat in all of sports. That environment goes perfectly with a few cold beers and Salty’s Escape really embodies that.”

"Partnering with the Seals was a natural fit for us as their commitment to the local community echoes our own mission statement and ties to our San Diego roots,” said Marc Truex, Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Belching Beaver. “Both of our organizations are focused on providing memorable experiences and ‘Dam Good Times’ for our fans. We agreed that the best way to bring a shared experience between both of our families was to collaborate on a new beer that was perfect to pair with the high-octane rush of live box lacrosse - and Salty's Escape pairs perfectly!"

With a total of four San Diego brick and mortar locations in North Park, Vista and Oceanside, Belching Beaver was founded in 2012 on the principles of brewing dam good beer and having Dam Good Times while doing it. Since its founding, the award-winning craft brewery has been independently operated by its three founders, and still is to this day. Known for pushing the envelope, from its original flagship Peanut Butter flavored Milk Stout to its newest core beer, Tropical Terps, Belching Beaver remains an innovator in the ever-evolving world of craft beer.

In addition to being available at Pechanga Arena during Seals games, Salty’s Escape also will be available on draught at each of Belching Beaver’s four San Diego locations and it will be sold in cans at a host of local San Diego bars and liquor stores.

San Diego Brewery Belching Beaver and Sacramento’s deftones release new beer, lucky you

11th collaboration by the dynamic duo to be a Japanese Style Rice Lager

San Diego, Calif.Belching Beaver, the “Dam Good Times” brewery headquartered in San Diego County’s City of Oceanside, and Deftones, the grammy-winning band out of Sacramento, have teamed up to release their 11th collaboration, Lucky You. Lucky You is a Japanese style rice lager ready to rock ‘n roll Aug 4th to 12 states through direct distribution, and most of the rest of the country through online retailers.

Lucky You will be released as a 4 pack of 16oz cans. The crisp, malty rice lager was developed by brewer Thomas Peters when Deftones asked for a lighter style beer this go-around. Peters also developed the original collaboration between the brewery and the band, Phantom Bride IPA. After several taste tests and recipe tweaks the perfect combination of flavor, body and mouthfeel was achieved and signed off on by Deftones; a crisp light bodied lager that is a very drinkable.

“When Deftones told us they wanted something lighter, I immediately knew I wanted to experiment with a Japanese Rice Lager,” said Peters. “It’s a fun style that is light-bodied but still full of flavor.”

Along with the specialty Deftones release, August will see a new take on the beloved seltzers by the craft brewery. The Hard Seltzer Variety Pack, originally released in 2020, has been updated with new flavors, new artwork and a new ethos. A tropical theme now runs through the new cans and variety box, imbuing the new flavors of Tropical Punch, Dragonfruit Orange and Raspberry Lemonade with colorful and fun patterns involving palm fronds, hibiscus flowers and other enticing designs. Passion Fruit & Guava remains from the original release as the crowd favorite that sparked the change to more tropical flavors, although it too has an updated and fresh look.

“We wanted to make everything about our seltzers brighter, and really meet our consumers where they are. The colors, the flavors, everything is brighter,” said Tom Vogel, founder and CEO of Belching Beaver Brewery. “It’s where we think seltzers should live, in a world of brilliant flavor.”

The refreshed seltzer variety pack and the Passion Fruit Guava 6 packs can be found throughout the Belching Beaver Brewery distribution footprint.

Belching Beaver was founded in 2012 on the principles of brewing dam good beer and having Dam Good Times while doing it. Belching Beaver Brewery Donates $10,000 To Wildlife 2000 Through It’s Give A Dam Campaign

The Brewery Is Working Toward Raising Awareness of Ecological Issues Involving Beavers

San Diego, Calif. (April 2022) – Did you know National Beer Day and International Beaver day are on the same day? April 7 hosts both of these holidays, and Belching Beaver is celebrating by teaming up with Wildlife 2000 to drive awareness, through it’s Give A Dam campaign, of how beavers help create biodiversity and other positive ecological benefits.

“The state of California has antiquated laws,” said Eric Robinson of Wildlife 2000. “They don’t allow anyone to move beaver anywhere in the state without a permit, and the permits are not given to anyone, they have lots of reasons not to move beaver.” “You can kill them, about 2,000 per year, mostly in Northern California.” “There are plenty of permits given to lethally remove them, but not for humanely putting them back in the land where they can do some good.”

Belching Beaver’s donation to Wildlife 2000 will fund efforts to try and get these laws updated and changed.

“To be honest, I’ve never seen a beaver, and I’ve lived in California my whole life, but now I know why, they are being killed,” said Haley Smith Marketing Manager at Belching Beaver Brewery. “I’ve always been a lover of animals, and I understand that some can see beavers as a nuisance, but I don’t think they should just be killed.” “This is their home, and they are just doing what they know to do, build dams, and raise their kits.”

The brewery is working with their distributor partners to create displays in retail locations to try and drive awareness about these animals. The displays will consist of marketing pieces that give facts about beavers and host a QR code that can be scanned to learn more about Wildlife 2000 and their partnership.

A special release beer was also created, Operation Beaver Drop Lemon Wheat Ale, to shine light on a successful beaver relocation project that took place in Idaho. Beavers were put into aerated boxes and parachuted down to a new environment, instead of the alternative of being trapped lethally.

Operation Beaver Drop is a light and refreshing wheat ale brewed with lemon peel, lemon grass and grains of paradise. It will be available throughout the brewery’s distribution footprint in 4-pack 16 oz cans starting April 1.

Belching Beaver is also hosting a special Pint Night at their Oceanside location on April 7. Wildlife 2000 will be there to talk more about their mission and how, and why we should protect beavers. There will be a video as well as special giveaways.

Belching Beaver is distributed in 14 states: AK, AZ, CA, CO, HI, ID, MN, NV, OR, NE, TX, UT, WA, WI

Belching Beaver Brewery Rolls Out Refresh With Unique Art

The brewery celebrates ten years in October, and gave their brand an updated look

San Diego, Calif. (January 2022) – Belching Beaver is celebrating ten years in October and thought this was the perfect time to refresh its core line-up.

The brewery has always prided itself on having a whimsical, fun brand and they wanted to make sure that was reflected in their labels. The inspiration for the direction of the new labels came from their No Worries IPA brand released in 2021. The label’s main focus is a beaver, lounging on an inner tube, surrounded by sharks, throwing up the shaka brah, drinking a beer. It has a center focal art piece that illustrates a story: when things aren’t going well, kick back, have a beer and try to remember it too will pass. They wanted their new labels to showcase a unique art piece but also, either focus on the flavors of the beer or tell a story of where the inspiration for the beer came from.

"We really have a great time refreshing our labels, I always look forward to the creative process,” said Tom Vogel CEO at Belching Beaver Brewery. “Getting the team around the table and going through all the ideas; it's just really cool to have everyone's input and come out with something fun that we think shows that beer is all about good times.”

“Our flagship beer and still our number one selling brand, Peanut Butter Milk Stout, got a well-deserved facelift by elaborating on the logo and giving it more of a timeless look,” said Haley Smith Marketing Manager at Belching Beaver Brewery. “This was the beer that put us on the map, and it continues to do well for us.” “We put on the label “America’s Favorite Peanut Butter Milk Stout,” and as we know that’s a bold statement, we’re really proud of this brand and what it’s done for our company.” “With a 4.0 rating on Untappd and over 115,000 reviews, we’re really proud of that.”

Must Be The Honey! a honey blonde ale that’s been in the company’s portfolio since they opened, now showcases a dripping pot of honey with a beaver face on the front. You know exactly the main flavor in the beer, it’s loaded with notes of honey, but still uses their mascot in a fun, different way.

The company’s flagship IPA, Phantom Bride, their first collaboration with the band Deftones, also got an update.

“This one was a little different from a design perspective,” said Haley Smith Marketing Manager at Belching Beaver Brewery. “This brand is very special to us, and we didn’t want to change it too much.” “We still love the art but wanted to brighten it up.” “We put it on a white background with both our logos tiled behind the beaver skull.”

The brewery also made the decision to put Phantom Bride in a box, versus using PakTechs (a plastic handle that holds the cans.)

“This will be our first brand we test in a box,” said Troy Smith Brewmaster at Belching Beaver Brewery. “Since we are putting so much emphasis on the art for this refresh, we felt the box gives us more space to play with.”

The brewery will also be releasing its tenth collaboration in August with Deftones. It’s the year of 10’s for Belching Beaver

Viva La Beaver, a Mexican Chocolate Peanut Butter Stout, the company’s core imperial stout, celebrates Mexican street art with a bright, vibrant painting of the beaver on a brick wall. The beaver is holding a bar of chocolate, to showcase the real Mexican chocolate they use in the beer. The chocolate is what gives this beer it’s best features, notes of cinnamon and a distinct spiced flavor.

You will start to see the new Peanut Butter Milk Stout, Must Be The Honey!, and Phantom Bride cans hitting shelves the end of January. Viva La Beaver will show up on shelves in Summer.

Belching Beaver is distributed in 14 states: AK, AZ, CA, CO, HI, ID, MN, NV, OR, NE, TX, UT, WA, W

San Diego, Calif. (November 2021) – To celebrate the holiday season Belching Beaver Brewery is giving its fans a special variety pack to share with friends and family around the Thanksgiving table. The 8-pack 16 oz can package features four Deftones collaboration beers, including Good Morning Beautiful that hasn’t been released since 2018. The variety pack includes:

(2) _Ohms Pale Ale
(2) Digital Bath Hazy IPA
(2) Good Morning Beautiful Brown with Coffee, Coconut and Maple
(2) Phantom Bride IPA

“When putting together this variety pack, we wanted to include something for everyone,” said Haley Smith Marketing Manager at Belching Beaver Brewery. “We also wanted to find styles that fit the season, and that’s when we decided to bring back Good Morning Beautiful.”

Dubbed the “Front Row Pack,” this product will start rolling out to Belching Beaver’s distribution channels starting Friday, November 12.

During the month of November, you will also be able to find 4-pack 16-ounce cans of the brewery’s 2020 Great American Beer Festival Silver medal awarded beer, Wet Hop Ride the Pine.

This special release beer will only be available for a limited time because it needs to be enjoyed fresh. It is available now throughout Belching Beaver’s distribution channels. The brewery also has a brew finder on their website to help you locate this fresh offering.

San Diego, Calif. (October 2021) – The brewery is celebrating nine years of business by releasing nine beers including an anniversary barrel-aged stout with sea salt and caramel, named Sling Yer’ Hook.

“Our philosophy has always been, our customer is our boss, and our anniversary is a time when we go all out and bring back old favorites and release new beers that we think our customers will love,” said Haley Smith Marketing Manager at Belching Beaver Brewery.

IPA Mixed Pack and Deftones Collaboration Beer Release in August

Belching Beaver has been more like Busy Beavers

San Diego, CA (August 2021) – Belching Beaver Brewery released its first IPA mixed pack, they’ve dubbed, “DAM GOOD IPA PACK.” This 8-pack of 16 oz beers will be available throughout the brewery’s distribution channels in August.

India Pale Ales are the dominant style in American craft beer, and for good reason. IPAs are known for having lots of hop flavor and low to medium malt notes. With so many New World hops available, and hop growers constantly innovating and developing new varietals, the flavor profiles are endless.

“We wanted to showcase a variety of ways the IPA can be enjoyed, “said Troy Smith Brewmaster at Belching Beaver Brewery.” “If you like a new era IPA, the mixed pack has that, if you want something more fruit forward and juicy, it has that as well.”

In the 8-pack you get:
(2) No Worries West Coast IPA
(2) Phantom Bride West Coast IPA
(2) Hazers Gonna Haze Hazy IPA
(2) Mosaic Double IPA

To make this month even sweeter for Belching Beaver fans, they are releasing their 8th collaboration with Deftones on August 20, Ceremony DDH Hazy IPA, named after a track on the band’s latest album, Ohms. This brew takes an easy drinking Hazy IPA and pushes the limits of our dry-hopping regiment- doubling down on the juicy and tropical hop varietals.

“Ceremony has a nice mélange of tropical fruit notes like mango, pineapple, and guava,” said Rick Blankemeier Quality Assurance Manager at Belching Beaver Brewery. “It also has a touch of strawberry and grapefruit in there.” “The mouthfeel is pillowy soft and has a rich body that fades away nicely on the palate.”

Fans will be able to find this new brew throughout Belching Beaver’s distribution channels starting August 20.

Belching Beaver Brewery Introduces No Worries IPA

The San Diego, award-winning craft brewery adds new year-round IPA to its core lineup

San Diego, CA (March 30, 2021) – Belching Beaver Brewery is pleased to introduce a new beer to its year-round lineup. A true-to-style West Coast IPA, No Worries IPA will be available in 16-ounce can, six-packs and on draft at select retailers, bars and restaurants starting April 2.

“Last year proved to be a challenging year, and let’s face it, a painful year for many people and businesses,” explains Belching Beaver CEO Tom Vogel. Now that there is a light at the end of the tunnel, the craft beer industry is starting to pick up and the horizon is looking bright again. We thought now is the right moment to enjoy good times again and introduce a new beer to our year-round offerings. Now Worries IPA pays tribute to celebrating the positive moments in life, moving on from the anxieties of the past and our daily lives…No worries – Just enjoy!"

A craft brewery known for making great beer and having a ‘Dam Good Time’ while doing so, Belching Beaver Brewery’s core lineup includes fan favorites such as: Peanut Butter Milk Stout, Here Comes Mango IPA, and Phantom Bride IPA. No Worries IPA was developed to round out the company’s year-round beer portfolio by offering a true West Coast IPA that will be attractive to craft beer enthusiasts and novices alike.

“When brainstorming ideas for No Worries IPA, our team wanted to create a beer recipe that embodied a quintessential IPA, yet used a twist of modern hops, flavors and aromatics,” said Troy Smith, Brewmaster at Belching Beaver. “This hop forward ale pours clear with a nice bubbly head, while dank and tropical fruit aromas jump from the glass. The first sip will tingle your taste buds, and as the bitterness mellows, the flavors of Strata, Galaxy, Mosaic, Citra and Amarillo hops take over. This crisp IPA will dominate the senses and brighten your day.”

Later this year, Belching Beaver will be unveiling a new video series illustrating the theme, “When life happens, create great moments with No Worries IPA.” The first installment will feature shots at a local beach in San Diego, where a surfer breaks his board in the water and ends his session on the beach enjoying a can of No Worries IPA. Fans will be invited to join the No Worries IPA campaign by entering a sweepstakes to win custom Belching Beaver Kegerators or Tourit Cooler Backpacks at select retailers nationwide.

Belching Beaver No Worries IPA will be available year-round across the brewery’s distribution portfolio. To learn more about the new beer as well as other core or special release offerings, visit belchingbeaver.com/beer.

Belching Beaver Brewery and Deftones Release Ohms Pale Ale

Not even a pandemic can break this collaboration

San Diego, CA (January 2021) – The brewery and Deftones continue their partnership, five years strong, with their latest release Ohms Pale Ale. Named after the band’s recent album, this beer ships out to retailers in select U.S. states via 16-ounce can four-packs on February 1.

“We are very excited to continue collaborating with the band on our newest Pale Ale,” said Marc Truex, Director of Sales at Belching Beaver Brewery. “Ohms is brewed to be a nice and steady drinking brew for all-day enjoyment that does not skimp on the hops.” “It’s ideal for kicking back and is the perfect accompaniment to your next listening party.”

These collaboration beers usually launch at events where customers can pick the brains of reps from the brewery about the new fare. Due to the pandemic, however, you’ll need to join Belching Beaver on Instagram Live on Thursday, January 28th to get all the brew-y details.

“Ohms continues our exploration in diverse flavor profiles across our collection of beers,” said Chino Moreno, Lead Vocalist of Deftones. “The Belching Beaver team is constantly looking to elevate and evolve – a philosophy that we practice in all aspects of Deftones.” “We’re really excited for everyone to try the newest addition to the family.”

Each collaboration released has had a unique recipe and style. Past releases included a double-dry hopped IPA (White Pony), Mexican-Style Lager (Dia De Los Deftones), and a Brown ale (Good Morning Beautiful) just to name a few. Ohms stands as the first Pale Ale collab, and it does not disappoint.

“The first thing you’ll notice is the bright, citrusy aromas coming off of this generously dry-hopped pale ale,” said Rick Blankemeier, Quality Assurance Manager at Belching Beaver Brewery. “There’s a ton of lemon peel and grapefruit aromas, along with a generous pineapple note.” “The flavors blend the citrus notes with some light pine to give a more nuanced and complex tableau that isn’t found in a lot of pale ales.” “The finish is nice, light, and refreshing.” “Hands down, one of the best thirst-quenching and yet flavorful beers we’ve ever brewed for you all.”

This collaboration is available for a limited time. To learn more about the new beer and Belching Beaver Brewery’s other special release offerings, visit belchingbeaver.com/beer.

Belching Beaver Brewery Celebrates 8th Anniversary

San Diego-based craft brewery honors its anniversary with a special barrel-aged beer release

San Diego, Calif. (October 28, 2020) – Belching Beaver Brewery is thrilled to celebrate eight years of having a ‘Dam Good Time’. As tribute to entering another year in the craft brewing business, the award-winning brewery created All In: Barrel-Aged Stout with Coffee, Maple, Vanilla. The limited, special release will be available in 500ml bottles and on draft at select markets across the U.S., starting this week.

“It is wild to think that we are already celebrating our 8-year anniversary,” said Tom Vogel CEO at Belching Beaver Brewery. “From launching Belching Beaver by self-delivering our beers in a small van to now operating multiple tasting rooms and being on track to have double-digit increase in 2020, our growth has been amazing. It took a lot of hard work, and we have a great team that’s been able to keep up with all challenges thrown at us, including the current pandemic at hand.”

Tom and Belching Beaver Brewmaster Troy Smith met more than 8 years ago playing poker and enjoying homebrews. After trying a few of Troy’s test batches, Tom asked Troy to join the venture with winemaker partner Dave Mobley. As a way of coaxing Troy into joining, Tom repeated “no guts, no glory,” a line the trio often overused while playing poker - to which Troy replied “I’m all in.” All three quit their day jobs, emptied the bank accounts, an Belching Beaver Brewery was born ‘All In.’

“For our 8th anniversary, we handpicked delicious first-use Cutwater Spirits bourbon barrels and filled them with a decadent pastry stout, brewed with dark malts and brown sugar,” said Troy Smith, Brewmaster at Belching Beaver Brewery. “The hard part was letting the beer sit undisturbed for a full year, yet we managed to keep our hands off the barrels in anticipation for this special beer. As a result, we bring you a decadent beer, delicious enough for breakfast and perfect for raising a glass of it in celebration of our anniversary. Cheers!”

All In Stout features a blend of rich, barrel-aged stout along with coffee, maple syrup, and vanilla. The use of bourbon barrels from Cutwater Spirits impart an oaky, vanilla wood character that meshes well with dark chocolate notes from the stout.

“While we've been pretty fortunate through these unprecedented times, there are big things on the horizon for us, and we are all excited to take on anything that may come our way,” added Vogel.“Cheers to many more years of making excellent beer and having Dam Good Times - We’re All In!”

Available for a limited time at all Belching Beaver Brewery locations and retailers in select markets, All In Stout commemorates the craft brewing company’s eighth anniversary. To learn more about Belching Beaver and its other beer offerings, visit belchingbeaver.com.

Belching Beaver Brewery and Deftones Release White Pony Double Dry Hopped IPA

Honoring the 20th Anniversary of the alternative-rock legends album

San Diego, CA (August 26, 2020) – This is not your average brewery, band partnership. Deftones and Belching Beaver Brewery started their relationship back in 2016 and continue to collaborate on a variety of styles to keep the collaborations fresh and exciting. The award-winning San Diego-based craft brewery is debuting its sixth collaboration with the band on Friday, August 28th. The collaboration beer will roll out to retailers in select U.S. states via 16-ounce can four-packs and a select amount on draft, beginning on August 28. It will be available at all Belching Beaver Brewery locations.

“To commemorate the 20th Anniversary of White Pony, we felt the best way to honor this milestone was to collaborate on a beer loaded with flavor, so we pumped the volume, and double dry hopped this India Pale Ale,” said Marc Truex Director of Sales. “This added an extra layer of hop aroma with notes of grapefruit, resulting in a juicy tropical IPA.”

“Our approach to beer is similar to how we approach our music, it’s constantly changing and evolving to help ensure we’re releasing a quality product that we stand behind,” said Chino Moreno, lead vocalist of Deftones. “With our wonderful partners at Belching Beaver, we’re proud to have collaborated on yet another beer that has been created with care and released with pride.” “We hope everyone enjoys our White Pony 20th IPA, as much as we do.”

White Pony is loaded with intense pineapple aroma, lemon peel, and grapefruit notes. There is an upfront flavor of pineapple but finishes with a soft grapefruit note with a mild bitterness and medium mouthfeel. It has a beautiful amount of layered hop flavors and aromas. Most people will pick out something different – but it’s delicious.

This collaboration is available for a limited time. To learn more about the new beer and Belching Beaver Brewery’s other special release offerings, visit belchingbeaver.com/beer.

Even The Experts Don’t Know Many Of The Nation’s Best Beers

Forbes logo

The craft beer explosion has made it virtually impossible for even the most knowledgeable hopheads to keep track of many of America's best beers. So I asked two experts at Tavour, who are certified cicerones and beer judges, to point out some of their current favorites, and I, too, was awakened to numerous beers I never knew existed. Tavour is an online craft beer retail store that says it sells beer from breweries in 47 states.
